Twin Brother has been kicking about their musical aspirations in the
upper Midwest in various formations throughout their collective years in
Milwaukee, rooted in the steady musical (and comradic) bond between
vocalist/guitarist Sean Raasch and drummer Tyler Nelson. Their new LP Swallow The Anchor (available August 19, 2014) is an album that is filled with folk galore expressed in the form of nine heart-wrenching songs.
The energetic pop-rock duo, Jackraasch is where Twin Brother really took
off, but it wasn't until Raasch and Nelson ironed out those early-20s'
wrinkles that they set their form to fly true by joining forces with
musical comrade, Lodewijk ("Lodi") Broekhuizen on bass and violin. The
trio set to writing together, with Raasch at the helm, and developed a
new sense of maturity and depth in their sound, claiming its name of
Twin Brother (holding familial meaning to Raasch).
This time around the band decided to create an album that was primarily
them, with the exception of having a couple friends play piano and sing
on the title track. “This album seems more honest to me as a songwriter
than any album I've ever written,” says Sean, “I’m not pulling any
punches here, the songs you hear on the record are just about as true to
who I am right now as anything”.
Over the course of a few months the band worked rigorously around the
clock in the recording studio to produce their sophomore album. With
more time and ample comfort during the creative process they were able
to refine every song into its completion. The band chose to title the
album Swallow the Anchor because of the meaning
behind that phrase. The title itself is an old saying that refers to a
sailor giving up the ship life and retiring once and for all. “In a lot
of ways I feel that way about many things in my life,” says Sean,
“things I would like to give up because I know it would be better for me
but in the end I just can't do it”.
Twin Brother's album Swallow The Anchor will be available digitally August 19th. Twin Brother will be touring in support of the album throughout August.
