Southern California's preeminent music promoter, Goldenvoice,
has partnered with The California Roots Union to bring classic roots and
country artists to an intimate landmark venue, The Roxy Theater. The
partnership's first show will feature a legendary performer of country,
bluegrass and gospel music, Marty Stuart. Support will be local
Americana artists, Sam Lewis and Tony Gilkyson.
Stuart first rose to prominence in Johnny Cash's band. Since his move to a solo career he's had for gold records and countless hits. "Marty Stuart has a rich and historic place in American music. His musical reach is vast, touching on rockabilly, honky tonk and more traditional styles. In addition, he's a board member on the Grand Ole Opry, a renowned photographer, collector and host of his own TV show. We're thrilled to be giving fans a chance to see an artist of Marty's stature up close at The Roxy," said California Roots Union co-founder Grant Langston.
The Roxy Theater, of course, is a legend in its own right. It opened in 1973 and it's original ownership included record producer Lou Adler and David Geffen. Neil Young and his band appeared during their first week of operation, and over the years the room has played host to an amazing list of live recordings and legendary performances by names like Genesis, Warren Zevon, Van Morrison, Guns and Roses, Jane's Addiction, and NOFX.
This new partnership between The California Roots Union and Goldenvoice shows their commitment to bring quality roots/Americana/Country music back to Southern California. "The sad fact is that many national touring roots acts don't make a habit of stopping in Los Angeles because of a perceived lack of fan support. We think the fans are here, and just need a little push with great artists and intimate venues, " said California Roots co-founder David Serby.
