Boo Ray - Sea of Lights - An Americana Daily Review

Sea of Lights
An Americana Daily Review

“Sea of Lights,” by Boo Ray, is a bonafide winner from beginning to end.  The kind of album someone might have slipped on a turntable back in the seventies which would have found its way back there for weeks to come.

I would call this Rock-Country, and it’s made by someone who knew exactly what he wanted to do with his music.  It starts off with “Redneck Rock’n’Roll,” and rocks on throughout.

The song titles may sound like standard country fare: “Keep That Hammer Down,” “Chickens,” “One More Round,” and “I Got the Jug,” but the music and the lyrics are authentically country and authentically of today. The closest parallel I can come up with is the late Doug Sahm, who was an exemplar of country-rock and very true to his Texas roots.  If you are at all a fan of the genre you will want to get this album.
